Fast Getaway

Recently I found myself thinking about the next big adventure and wondering where it might take place.

My last big trip was Christmas in the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River so of course my mind was astray to distant places exotic, wild and unknown. Then I got to thinking about the months of organization and the kind of time commitment that was involved in that trip.

That got me thinking that maybe I should try something a little more local. The answer to my question of where was staring me right in the face.

In Adventure Kayak issue 1, 2010 in the Dream Departures section by illustrator and writer Lorenzo Del Bianco is a map and description of a sea kayak trip in the Georgian Bay titled the Minks and McCoys.

I have long thought of a sea kayak trip in that area and have imagined how breath taking the scenery would be.

The trip Lorenzo had illustrated starts in Dillon Cove and Ends in Snug Harbor. The east shore of Georgian Bay to the west of Parry Sound and Killbear Provincial Park is dotted with thousands of islands.

There are countless trip options to be had in this area alone. Depending on your desire to shuttle Killarney to Parry Sound maybe one or perhaps even a loop trip around the islands based out of one of the provincial parks avoids a shuttle all together.

If you are like me and haven’t planned your summer getaway then this maybe one to add to your list of potential getaways.
