Faster, Faster! Around Vancouver Island
Why are sea kayakers so obsessed with racing around Vancouver Island? Joe O'Blenis, 44, recently announced his intention to tackle the speed record for solo sea kayaking around Vancouver Island this summer.
As reported on Canoe & Kayak's website, O'Blenis set the record at 23 days in 2007, a benchmark later beaten by Sean Morley.
Last time he did it, O’Blenis says the toughest part was resisting the temptation to relax and enjoy the scenery. There is only one obvious and unanswered question: Why not succumb to the temptation?
