The Edmonton MEC Paddle Fest will be held June 12, 2010 at Rundle Park Paddling Centre, Edmonton.Here’s what the folks at MEC have to say about the upcoming Paddle Fest
Hosted by MEC in partnership with the City of Edmonton River Day Events, Paddlefest is an urban celebration of canoeing and kayaking. The day will feature learning opportunities on and off the water. The event will showcase a wide range of canoes, whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks, and recreational kayaks. The will also be opportunities to test boats, take a skills development clinic, or attend an information session. There will also be Voyageur Canoe Rides, a fishing event, and many other hands-on activities for children and families.
Rundle Park Paddling Centre is located in Rundle Park in east Edmonton. Access to Rundle Park via 29th Street and 113th Avenue or by 118th Avenue and Abbotsfield Road. There is ample parking just west of the ACT Pool. Make your way south from the parking area to the paddling ponds for the festivities.
For information, to volunteer, or to become a presenter or exhibitor, please contact Susan McBride at edmontonpaddlefest@mec.ca or call us at 780.488.6614.We will have a variety of boats available. We will provide PFDs, paddles, and safety equipment, but if you have your own, bring it along.
Make sure to wear quick-drying clothing (you may get wet). Don't forget a change of clothes. While the event is free you may want to buy food at the snack bar. Don't forget your sunscreen, hat and sunglasses.
If you are considering joining on-water sessions, please remember to sign up at the store or at the on-site registration table. Also please bring a change of clothes as you may get wet. We will provide boats and PFDs.
Children are welcome and may be able to join parents for the on-water sessions. Please check with us for more details. Please note there is no childcare during the event.
