Thacher Island Kayakathon

The 2nd annual Thacher Island Kayakathon, raising funds for a new Thacher Island boat launch, will be held on July 16 starting at the Granite Pier in Rockport, MA.
TIK2011-1

Join us for our 2nd Annual Kayak-a-thon (and 150th Anniversary of the building of the lighthouses in 1861) as we paddle from Granite Pier in Rockport to Thacher Island (aka Twin Lights) and back. This event will help to raise funds for a new Thacher Island boat launch for the The Thacher Island Association (TIA). The TIA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 1981 by the Thacher Island Town Committee (TITC) and is dedicated to the restoration and on-going maintenance of the island and it's buildings.

Picture-018Entry fee is $25, but you must raise at least $75 in donations to receive a gift bag (your entry fee counts towards your total sponsorship). Donated prizes will be given to the participants who raise the most money. A copy of “Twin Lights of Thacher Island, Cape Ann”, signed by Paul St. Germain, the author and president of the TIA volunteers, will go to any individual who raises over $200.

To sponsor this event by donating goods or services, contact DeSoto Adventures. They're running the show.

Free parking and at Granite Pier for registered kayakers attending this event. You must present a copy of your registration form, or your PayPal receipt, to receive this benefit. The registration desk will open at 10AM, and launch time will be 11AM. This isn't a race with a hard start time, but it is fun to paddle out together.

We'll have refreshments & donated “goodies” for all participants donated by local vendors like Twin Lights Sodas, Top Dog hot dogs and a yummy selection of fresh strudels donated by Helmut Strudels. Participants are welcome a free tour of Thacher Island, led by Thacher Island Association volunteers, if desired.
