The only world-class race to paddle Lake Michigan and the shores of chicago for paddlers of all skill levels is holding their forth annual event – August 28, 2010 – Chicago, Illinois.
The Chicago Shoreline Marathon invites paddlers to participate in a unique opportunity to paddle the shorelines of Lake Michigan within the City Limits of Chicago.
Three different events offer a challenge for Olympic caliber pros and amateur paddlers with intermediate or beginner skills.
As a former event participant stated: “I, for one, had no idea of Chicago’s fantastic shoreline, specifically the beaches – I’m glad I made the trip from Minnesota, it was worth every mile of the drive. The CSM is a world class race and a fantastic addition to the open water racing scene”.
The Chicago Shoreline Marathon is also proud to support US TOO – Prostate Cancer Education & Support and provides a venue for the Chicago Adventure Therapy organization to also offer a therapeutic outdoor programs for at-risk youth.
All events are open to all lake-worthy human-powered watercraft. This includes surf skis, sea kayaks, outrigger canoes and stand-up paddleboards. Classes will be offered for any craft with 3+ entrants.
Events will take place on Friday, August 27 - at Chicago’s Leone Beach.
1pm-5pm – Clinics with Dawid Mocke, a leading international paddler.
1pm-4pm – Boat demos with Chicago Paddle Sports and Ocean Paddle Sports and Reps will be on-hand to answer all your questions.
Kayaks from Epic, Fenn, Red 7, Custom Kayaks and Ark Paddleboards will be featured at the event.
On Saturday, August 28 the 25-Mile Marathon – for the skilled competitive paddler will take place and will be broken up into separate legs starting at the South Side of Chicago.
The course consists of five paddling stretches with the first leg starting at Calumet Harbor and the fifth leg ending at Leone Beach

Activities and events will also include the 8-mile 2-beach race for intermediate paddlers, the 4 X 4-mile relay for all skill levels and of course a Saturday Post-Race Party and Dinner.
