Want to try a Greenland Paddle for the first time or ready to master the rolling list. Learn from the Pro's at the first annual Ontario Greenland Camp on September 10th-12th.
The organizers of Ontario Greenland are very excited that September 10th to 12th will be the first annual Ontario Greenland Camp.
Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson of Kayakways along with Adam Hansen a native Greenlander will the mentors for the weekend.
The OGC is a fun and informative weekend of learning for paddlers from beginners to pros.
Organizers hope the event will become an annual Greenland Camp servicing stick-heads from Ontario, Quebec, Upstate New York, Vermont, Michigan and anywhere else in-between.
The goal of the Ontario Greenland Camp is to introduce the joy of Greenland Kayaking to as many paddlers as possible so that more paddlers can discover the traditional kayaking skills and tools of the Arctic's Inuit.
Their craft offers valuable lessons and skills that can truly improve your skill with a euro blade although most of us who are passionate about the Greenland stick say “Once you go stick you never go back!”
This first year should be a fantastic event. Here's a few words from the organizers.

We have seasoned pros Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson, Adam Hansen all the way from Greenland, and Heather Lamon, who is on her way to compete in the Greenland games in July of this summer!
So, we count ourselves to be really fortunate that all of the mentors at Ontario’s first Greenland Camp have all competed in the National Kayaking Championship's in Greenland. Woohoo!
We’ve found a great venue for the event, Camp Tamarack near Bracebridge, Ontario located two hours north of Toronto. It’s a great location for us.
Sandy beaches in a warm private lake.
It has cozy cabins and a spacious camp dining hall with memories of summers past hanging on the wall.
There’s a basketball court, a tennis court, even a driving range!
More than your typical Ontario Camp so what better place to have our Ontario Greenland Camp?
Who wouldn’t like a chance to go back to camp even if it’s just for a weekend?
The camp runs from Friday after work until Sunday late afternoon.
It’s an all-inclusive event; meals, lodging, evening presentations, world-class instruction, games, music, (all amateur musicians bring your weapon of choice) and of course, laughter.
We’re still in the process of organizing some more options for participants such as early arrival on Thursday evening with private, or semi-private instruction with Cheri and Turner on Friday.
We’re considering a build-a-paddle-in-a-day option for Friday as well. We’ve also had a suggestion of making your own tuilik as well.
We are definitely open to feedback and suggestions so that we make sure we organize the best event we can for everyone attending.
So go ahead and send us an email and let us know what you’d like to have at your first ever Ontario Greenland Camp!
