Expedition Update:"My Personal Everest"

mj1-1

The 2010 circumnavigation of Quebec expedition has been postponed till 2011 due to injury.  Although Quebec is not an island a circumnavigation is possible through travel over inland lakes and rivers as well as some gruelling portages.

Mathieu Jean of Quebec informed Adventure Kayak he will be unable to carry out his expedition this year as planned due to a shoulder injury.  (Click here to read the previous interview with Mathieu posted by Tim Shuff on Adventure Kayak)

Mathieu’s planned expedition would find him launching in Trois Riveres, Quebec and traveling up the coast of Quebec and Labrador.

He planned to carry out the expedition over 2 seasons taking a break through the winter due to adverse ice conditions that would prevent him from paddling.

The second leg of the expedition would take Mathieu further along the northern coast of Labrador and Quebec and on to the Labrador Sea, Hudson Bay and James Bay.  From there he would work his way back to Trois Riveres through inland lakes and rivers.

Mathieu says “although I am not the first to carry out this expedition it is my first time to do it” and called the expedition “his own personal Everest“.  He had many supporters and followers on the expedition website.

We wish Mathieu the best and hopefully a speedy recovery and look forward to the launch of his expedition in 2011.
