That’s right, the Atlantic Ocean. Aleksander’s goal is to paddle from Dakar, Senegal, on Africa’s west coast, to Fortaleza, Brazil. The entire 3300 km journey has been estimated to take him three months to complete.

ak1102-transatlantic2-200pxAs you can tell by the pictures he won’t be paddling your regular run-of-the-mill kayak. The craft has been specially built for the trip and is highly specialized for the task. With the ability to carry 120 liters of fresh drinking water and to be locked down tight in the event of foul weather and waves, the kayak looks a little like a hybrid kayak/sailing yacht.

To answer the question of if this is really a kayak, Aleksander defends his creation by expressing the fact that the only means of propulsion will be from a kayak paddle and that the kayak has no masts or sails.

His website currently is in Polish however you can view it through Google translate here at www.translate.google.co.uk/translate. An English version of his site is under development.
