GAS
The origins of a deadly phenomenon that has been building for some time. What ever you do don’t hold it in, it only makes it worse. In a recent issue ( Early Summer 2010, www.adventurekayakmag.com/adventurekayakmag_earlysummer10) author Alex Matthews discusses the serious implications of a condition known as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).
Research on this phenomenon lead to some very interesting information about it’s origins.

According to an article dug out of the archives of the ever so reliable Wikipedia the “G” in GAS originally stood for the word guitar.
That’s right. Musicians from around the world were the first to be afflicted by GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome).
As these musicians acquired more guitars they began to realize that suddenly they needed to acquire other things such as strings, patch cables, cases, stands and amplifiers to compliment their numerous instruments and so came the first mutation of the debilitating disease.
The “G” which once stood for guitar now had a3 whole new, broader meaning. GEAR.
Now this is only a theory and there is no scientific evidence but research find lead me to believe the third mutation of the affliction came through casual contact.
We all know that campfires and guitars go hand and hand. See where I’m going with this?
For those of you who think I’m completely crazy read the article online at http://www.adventurekayakmag.com/digital-magazines.html
Be aware that while friends and family members can deal with the effects of GAS storage space and savings accounts are never quite the same following contraction of the disease.
