Region Kicks Off Summer Season at 2010 Mid-Atlantic Kayak Festival

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Kayakers in the Baltimore and Washington, DC area will be kicking off the summer season from May 7-9, 2010 at the Mid-Atlantic Kayak Festival.  The annual three-day, rain-or-shine paddlesports event, held at historic Camp Letts in Annapolis, Maryland, will have activities for the whole family and is open to all.

The gathering will feature vendors from around the region, the latest in paddlesports equipment from the industry’s top manufacturers, demos, nightly guest lecturers, clinics and personal instruction from the sports leading instructors, and free instruction for beginners.  A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to conservation organizations serving the Chesapeake Bay.

For both experienced kayakers and beginners in the sport, the Mid-Atlantic Kayak Festival promises to be a great way to tune up, gear up, and get connected with other paddlers for the 2010 season. Who:
All are welcome to attend and industry professionals are scheduled to be there. Attendees will include:
•   Top kayak athletes and coaches
•   Local kayak instructors from Potomac Paddlesports
•   Industry representatives, including kayak manufacturers and retailers
•   Community volunteers
•   Beginner through advanced kayakers of all ages
•   Outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn more about kayaking


What:
A fun, social, three-day event kicking off the 2010 paddling season in the Baltimore-Washington, DC region. Activities will include:
•   Free on-site boat demos (in both protected and open water conditions)
•   Free “Quick Start” kayak lessons for beginners
•   Coaching and instruction from top kayak athletes and experts from around the country
•   Kids’ cardboard boat-building contest and race
•   Free paddling films on big screen
•   Free nightly guest lectures by visiting kayakers and adventurers

Saturday, May 8 8:00 am – 9:00 pm (largest crowds expected between 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Saturday)

The annual Mid-Atlantic Kayak Festival is held at Camp Letts in Annapolis, Maryland (38°53'18.81"N, 76°31'46.20"W). Camp Letts provides easy access to both protected and open water conditions, excellent lodging, plenty of parking, a great picnic area, and a large hall for retail sales, all within a 150-yard radius.
